About Rutland County
Pro-Business Coalition

Business leaders of Rutland County established the Rutland County Pro-Business Coalition (RCPBC). The mission of the RCPBC is to further interest in promoting and protecting a competitive, free enterprise, and capitalistic business climate in Rutland County. RCPBC serves as an educational vehicle in acquainting the general public with the needs and values of business in the State of Vermont.

Vermont is a beautiful State with a lot to offer both its citizens and businesses. We are concerned that Vermont has placed a very strong social agenda ahead of a very strong economic climate. The cost of these social programs has led to unnecessary increased business and personal taxes.

Developing an atmosphere of greater fiscal and regulatory freedom and empowering individuals to greater creativity and economic success is in Vermont's best interest as a whole. That, in turn, results in increased economic growth and a capacity to fund appropriate social programs.

RCPBC supports many social issues; however, we oppose an increase in social program spending when it is placed on the back of business. We would like the State of Vermont to re-assess its current commitments instead of continually generating additional social programs at the expense of business. Strengthening the business climate, rather than creating additional taxes and regulations, will foster competition and bring higher wages. A thriving business environment will provide the social benefits that are at present being mandated by politicians and paid for by Vermont’s businesses and taxpayers.

RCPBC seeks to change the business climate in Rutland County by working with our local elected officials. We will impress on them the needs and demands of business. We will seek to educate the public on the needs and importance of developing a stronger business climate.

The RCPBC is a members-only group of business owners, managers, and like-minded individuals who are committed to changing the anti-business attitude and perception, and in promoting Rutland County as open for business. This may be very difficult if not impossible without pro-business legislation.

We plan to monitor legislators' votes for compliance with our wishes and needs. We plan to work on seeking representatives that do vote in line with a pro-business philosophy.

We plan to work with existing and new businesses to expand in Rutland County. This will take an active grassroots effort by all members of the RCPBC.

The RCPBC will work with Boards of Aldermen, Boards of Selectmen, Mayors, Town Managers, State Representatives, State Senators, and Our Governor. By educating at the grass root level, we seek to effect change in the town or city as well as the State. Our hopes are that this type of activity will revitalize Rutland County as a business friendly community.

Placing pressure on our elected officials to work for a stronger business climate is essential to our organization. Educating your employees, friends, relatives, and associates on the need for a healthy business climate is equally important. Both are necessary to effect meaningful change.

Becoming a member of the RCPBC is easy. You can fill out the on line application and mail it and a $25.00 check made out to the Rutland County Pro-Business Coalition. Bring the form and your check or cash to one of the General Meetings. You can go online to www.RCPBC.org to file an application and pay online.

All meetings are member-only and closed to the general public unless otherwise advertised.
